A Special Photo Fair Event with Dayanita Singh

April 6, 2018

Carnegie International and PGH Photo Fair present Dayanita Singh in conversation with Dan Leers, Curator of Photography, Carnegie Museum of Art about her award-winning publication Museum Bhavan (Steidl, 2007), a museum in the form of a photography book. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 11th from 6pm-8pm at Silver Eye Center for Photography, 4808 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. The event is free, but registration is required.

Winner of the Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation 2017 Photo Book of the Year Award and the 2018 ICP Book Award, Dayanita Singh is a participant in the 2018 Carnegie International. Come hear the New Delhi-based artist speak about how her exhibitions of photography take many forms, including a jacket she will wear. This garment will inspire a short sketching session to design our own pocket museums. Snacks will follow.

Tam O'Shanter Drawing Session: Zines with Mimi Cherono Ng'ok

April 4, 2018

We're thrilled to partner with the Carnegie International to host a Tam O'Shanter Drawing Session on Saturday, April 14th from 12pm-2pm. This drawing session will be led by Mimi Cherono Ng'ok. She will lead a zine-making session and invite us into her creative process inspired by travels, reading, and listening. Mimi Cherono Ng'ok is a Nairobi-based artist participating in this year's Carnegie International.

Tam O'Shanter Drawing Sessions are for those who draw and for those who don't. Come explore contemporary art through improvised forms of drawing with artists and organizers of the Carnegie International. Sketching, doodling, cartooning, mapping, writing, and marking are among the many modes that will bring us together.

Named after the original art classes for young people that Carnegie Museum of Art has been holding since 1929; the tam o'shanter, or tam, is a Scottish beret—oft adorned by a pompom.
